I would be bored with anything less....

My crazy day started at 5:30 am to the buzzing of the alarm clock. My cat did her daily ritual plopping on my neck until I get up or stop breathing…I guess whatever comes first. My 5 year old twins refused to get out of bed, eat breakfast and go to school. Instead they wanted to stay in their PJ’s, watch cartoons and try and convince me that it really was Saturday.
No one wanted to drink their milk, eat their cereal or put their shoes on.
The raincoats are not identical so that wasn’t working either. They decided to fight over who got to eat the pineapple lifesaver instead of the banana one (no one likes bananas) I can’t seem to remember why we would even eat lifesavers for breakfast or why I cut that as part of the deal. Sometimes it’s just about getting out the door. This of course was all before 7 am.

By the time my day was over and I had picked up the kids from school I discovered that the game boy was smuggled into daycare (against the rules) and they had been traded a really cool game for a really old one. At least no one had told the teacher ‘no’ today and everyone was smiling.
My husband was late getting home so I was rushed to get on the road for my first night class.
As I was getting on the road my publisher called to tell me that my students made a $2,ooo mistake on our high school yearbook page submission! Yikes…just as I was working on that---I got pulled over for speeding. By this point I really didn’t want to go through the whole “do you know why I am pulling you over routine?” Just give me my ticket please…I have nearly an hour drive and I have to be in Flint in 35 minutes.

  1. What a day! Twins? Adorable :) You sound like you have a really hectic life, but it seems as though these seemingly rare days are worth it.

  2. You are a hero. My sister has 4 year old twins and looks forward to the day when they are a little more self-sufficient. I take my hat off to you.

  3. Hi, Amy.

Whether we have three kids or seven, they really take up our time, don't they? But they are worth it. I think about all the crazy days, the sleepless nights, and yelling and fighting. But then we get them all off to bed. The house is so quiet, and they look like little angels when they are sleeping, (except for my teenagers).

Do you ever have times when your husband has all the kids with him? At first, it's great. But after a while you begin to wonder when they are coming back. (Yeah, OK, that never happens. He never takes all the kids with him.) Still, it's pleasant to think about.

I like your level of detail. You describe a domestic scene so well. For some reason, I'm not that much into detail. I would rather write about ideas. (Is that because I am mimetic?)

    Good job.

  4. Some days just make you wonder what life is all about. It's nice to know other women have busy days where events seem to take on lives of their own!
